JESPER BUSK SØRENSEN

"In my first concert with the Berlin Philharmonic, we played ›A Heroic LIfe‹. I found it wonderful to sit in the middle of this fantastic orchestra. I remember that I got goosebumps from the first sound of the orchestra. As second trombonist, it is my job to create balance in our bass section while supporting the first trombone, as well as the bass trombone.''

Jesper Busk Sørensen's first instrument was the euphonium, but then he chose the trombone because he loved its warm and lush sound, and because he was fascinated by its ability to transform from one of the strongest to one of the most gentle instruments of the orchestra. He studied trombone with Niels-Ole Bo Johansen, Rolf Sandmark and Jesper Juul at the Royal Music Academy, Åarhus.

His first engagement led him to the Åarhus Symphony Orchestra in 2002, where he first held the position of the second trombonist, and later the first trombonist. During his orchestral work he also had the opportunity to develop his instrumental skills with Michael Mulcahy at the Northwestern University in Chicago. As a chamber musician, he is a member of the Danske Basunkvartet (Danish Trombone Quartet), which premiered several contemporary works. The musician, who likes to travel, is interested in architecture and design.

Jesper Busk Sørensen has been a member of the Berliner Philharmonic since 01.09.2009. At present, he is also an honourary professor at the Royal Danish Conservatory in Copenhagen.
